About King Shaw Associates
King Shaw Associates is a pioneering practice founded by environmental engineer Doug King and structural engineer Mike Shaw. The practice offers fully integrated structural, environmental and building services engineering to support architects in the design of quality buildings. The practice has a clear agenda to promote sustainability in the construction, occupation and operation of buildings through good design. Our aim is to treat every construction project as bespoke, developing a thorough understanding of each Client’s requirements and tailoring our solutions to enhance their business objectives. We are conscious that we design buildings for human beings to occupy and that the satisfaction and productivity of staff are the critical factors in most Clients’ organisations. Thus our solutions are developed uniquely for each project, rather than manipulating the project to fit a convenient mould. Before forming King Shaw Associates, Doug and Mike had worked together extensively and share the view that a holistic approach to engineering design results in more complete and integrated solutions to the built form. These solutions are optimised for the whole building and achieve far greater efficiency and value for clients than separately designed, sub-optimal solutions from each engineering discipline. With nearly 40 years combined experience, working with a wide range of practices; the principals have developed a broad base of skills in construction. They not only have a strong background in dealing with contractual issues, but also realise the importance of integrating simulation and modelling techniques in the design studio as an aid to developing the design.
