Barrington Court, Somerset

King Shaw Associates were appointed by The National Trust to provide building services including the design of a new biomass district heating system plus civil and structural engineering advice on the proposed redevelopment of the existing Model Farm Buildings at Barrington Court.

The intention was to develop the barn structures so they could be used as a new more formal reception and café area with adjoining commercial units the farm units themselves were one of the first concrete structures constructed in the early 19th century.

In order for the National Trust to develop a business plan we carried out a survey of the primary structures of the buildings to ascertain their general condition and appraise their structural integrity and capacity for redevelopment. We also produced an energy masterplan strategy which encompassed all the buildings within the site curtailage.

Supported the client in establishing with the Quantity surveyor costings for various elements so an application could be made to the National Trust’s various funding streams.
