Chapel Housing, Southampton
Chapel Housing consists of 174 new homes constructed on an existing lorry park 1 mile from the city centre.
Employed initially by Swaythling Housing Society (now Radian) and Persimmon homes for the construction phase King Shaw Associates provided the Building services Engineering. The MEP drawings were prepared to construction level of detail allowing sub-contractors to install from our information.
Three blocks ranging in height from three to five storeys generated social inclusion by including a mixture of dwellings with a mixture of private ownership and social housing.
The homes are designed to the highest standards of energy efficiency with super insulation, all achieving SAP ratings in excess of 100. King Shaw also worked closely with the client and SEEDA to incorporate a PV array as a demonstration project. The final solution concluded in a 75kW photovoltaic array which provides all the energy necessary to operate the Landlord’s and common area services, displacing some 300 tonnes of Carbon Dioxide annually.
