Markham Quay, Chesterfield

King Shaw Associates provided combined engineering services on this project to construct 64 new single and two bed units on a brownfield regeneration site, close to the station in Chesterfield.

Working with the architects and client we developed an economic repetitive structure to meet the brief for cost effectiveness and speed of construction.

Of the 3 blocks the larger had duplex flats to the upper level set up into the curved roof structure. At the intersection of the blocks the access stairs and lift were designed as standalone steel structures that were dropped into position.

The structure itself was load bearing masonry with a curved roof structure, into a reinforced suspended ground slab sitting on vibro piled columns used for ground improvement.

The services after various alterations were determined by the client with respect to what the local market could support and the most effective way to manage billing in the future.
