Prickly Bay, Grenada

The brief was to construct 94 waterfront houses and apartments with a marina in Grenada for a private developer. The marina facilities include a club with bars and restaurants, two swimming pools, a chandlery and a yacht fuelling point.

Located on a remote part of the coast the development has to be largely self sufficient with on site water treatment, energy generation and sewage treatment.

King Shaw Associate was appointed as structural, civil and building services engineers for the project, to develop strategies and engineering solutions up to Stage D for the preparation of final documentation by local engineers.

The project involved developing the design for three house types; ship house, garden house and hill apartments, whilst running in parallel establishing a site wide strategy for the complete development in respect to infrastructure and utilities.

Part of King Shaw Associate’s commission was to carry out storm assessments of the site including environmental impact on local ecology and design measures to deal with hurricane storms and their implications, together with risk assessments of possible damage by shipping.
